Jewellery estimated to be worth up to €50,000 was stolen in an early morning heist from an Athlone jewellery stop in Golden Island Shopping Centre. Several items believed to be worth up to €50,000 were taken in the raid. Five years ago, the same business had to close for several months after €250,000 worth of jewellery was taken after another daring break-in. Gardaí are currently checking CCTV but there are no descriptions of the thieves as they were wearing masks and gloves. Gardaí appealing for anyone who was in the area at time or may have CCTV or dashcam footage or any other information to contact them at Athlone Garda Station.
